Habit appliances are used as a deterrent and a reminder to break habits like a tongue thrust or finger sucking. They can also be used as trainers for tongue placement during rest and swallowing. These appliances use reminder habit cribs and Blue Grass Rollers for these purposes.

  • Bands on the 1st permanent molars
  • .036 wire is bent from the 1st molar to the cingulum of the cuspids
  • Habit crib is bent to hang down and to avoid the contact of the lower anterior teeth
  • Wire and crib are soldered to the bands

Thumb Habit Appliance

  • Bands on the 1st permanent molars
  • .036 wire is bent from the 1st molar to the cingulum of the cuspids
  • Habit crib or rake is bent to hang down and to avoid the contact of the lower anterior teeth

Bluegrass Roller

  • Bluegrass Roller added to the wire
  • Rests can be added to the 1st primary molars or 1st bicuspids
